Witnessing to Muslims

Q.
I am a language student, and I do a lot of things on-line.  I try to help others learn English as well as learn their language.  In doing this, I meet a large number of people.  One of the people I met was a young girl, born in Vienna, yet 100% Karachay-Balkar.  She is a Muslim, and when I tried to talk to her about the Gospel, she decided that she wanted no more contact with me.  I know that all the arguments 7 wise men can render could never persuade her if she is not willing to listen, however, I also have a responsibility to be the best, sharpest tool I can be for my Lord’s use.  Can you advise me of good resources to use so that I may better evangelize Muslims should I encounter one again?
A.
Witnessing to Muslims is a great challenge.  The more you know about Islam, the better you are equipped to do so.  Most likely insecure Mulims will not carry on a conversation when you start sharing your faith.  That’s when you need to change your way of sharing the gospel.
The best way to reach out to the Muslim requires the best training.  I am not a very good fisherman.  I tried many times to catch fish in rivers, lakes, and even in the deep sea.  I believe the reason is because I was never trained to catch fish as I grew up.  I was never trained to catch fish in all kinds of waters, so it is with evangelism.  We in America think that Muslim evangelism is like any other evangelism. We knock on their door, meet them in the street, and tell them about sin and about Jesus.  Of course, Muslims have no idea what original sin is for they do not have the true story of Adam and Eve in the Qur’an.  And of course, they will never believe and accept our Jesus, the Son of God, God who became flesh, died, and arose again.  That is nothing but infidelity.  So we’re talking two different languages.  Evangelizing Muslims requires special training.  Many try without success.  I know some evangelists who traveled to do mission work in a Muslim world but end up becoming a Muslim and married to Muslim people.  Have you read the Qur’an? Have you studied the Hadith?  Do you know where the problem is in Christian doctrine for Muslims?  For example, when we teach about the doctrine of trinity, I hear some Christians make the doctrine so complicated by saying that it is a mystery, we just believe in it.  Others make it so simple by saying it is like ice, water, and steam.  But have you studied what the Bible and the Qur’an, yes, the Qur’an teaches about the triune God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  It is very important to know Islam so that you can reach out to the Muslim.  I do not believe in a specific way for I personally through the years have used many different ways which causes me to believe that Muslim evangelism requires more training for there are many different types of Muslims.  Not all Muslims are the same.  Therefore, there is not one specific way, and working with Muslims requires lots of training.  I always use the Qur’an first simply because Muslims believe in it, and we can use the Qur’an to point the Muslim to these facts:   One, the Bible is the true word of God, and it cannot be changed for the Qur’an says that no one can change the words of Allah (Qur’an 6:34).  Two, the Qur’an cannot be the word of God for it is full of errors and contradictions. “Do they not consider the Qur’an?  If it was from other than Allah, they would have found in it many inconsistencies.” (Qur’an 4:82)  Three, Mohammad cannot be a prophet, especially when we compare him to Jesus.  Four, the Qur’an teaches that women are disrespected, without value. We know for a fact that women are half of the society.  They are our mother, sisters, wives, and daughters. Five, the Jesus of the Qur’an is not the Jesus of the Bible. As a matter of fact, none of the stories of the Qur’an, which is copied from the Bible, are the same, not Noah, not Abraham, not Joseph, not Moses, etc.  Six, true freedom cannot be found but in the teachings of the Bible for only in and by Christ, the Truth, can we be set free.  Seven, Christianity is the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Old Testament, not the invention of Paul and other early Christian apostles.  Muslim evangelism needs lots of work for it is a hard field.    I remember one time that I was asked to speak in a church and was asked to share with the congregation how to evangelize Muslims.  The pastor of the church gave me 30 minutes to do so.  I stood in the pulpit and asked a few questions.  And the answer from the people of the church was obviously “no.”  They never read the Qur’an or the Hadith.  They did not know anything about Islam or the Muslims.  But they needed to learn how to evangelize them in 30 minutes. My answer is obviously “no.”  We can’t do that.  Jesus spent 3 years with His disciples so that He can equip them.  Working with Muslims is even harder than working with Jews.  There is not a specific recipe to do so but lots of study and lots of prayer.  There are 6 DVD’s that are available in our ministry with 14 hours of education, I also translated the Qur’an into a true English translation, and there are many wonderful books written about Islam.  The more you study, the more you learn, the more you are well equipped to reach the Muslims. Some think that the best way to do Muslim evangelism is to travel overseas and be a “real” missionary, but that is not biblical for the scriptures teach that Jesus sent His disciples first to Jerusalem, second to Judea, third to Samaria, and finally to the ends of the world.  Let us begin with our Jerusalem.  Yes, we were commanded to go to the ends of the world, but let us not forget about our Jerusalem first.  Christ has made it even easier for today the whole world is in our Jerusalem.  So let’s study, search, and reach.
Q. What is the Camel Method and what is your view on it?
A.  The Camel Method is a poor presentation for it tries to use the Qur’an to prove to the Muslim about the Gospel of Jesus. But in fact, the name Jesus is not mentioned in the Qur’an but Isa who is not the Son of God or the son of Allah and who did not die on the cross – so it is actually an empty circle. However, on the other hand, I use the Qur’an when I minister to the Muslims after assuring them that I do not believe in it as  – step number 1 –  for Mohammed declared in the Qur’an that the Bible is the Word of God, which had never been corrupted and will never change. Because Muslims believe in their Qur’an, they must believe that the Bible is the perfect Word of God. Then step number 2 –  I use the Qur’an to disprove the Qur’an to be the Word of God. Obviously, that is as we show hundreds of error and contradictions, which is now available in our new two volume book, Exposing the Truth about the Qur’an, The Revelation of Error.  Then we lead the Muslim to the truth of the Gospel which is step number 3. If we do not take these easy three steps and just expose the error and contradictions in the Qur’an and convince the Muslim that the Qur’an and Islam are false, we may lose them for good to atheism. Also, before I show my Muslim friends that they are lost in Islam, it is very important to let them know about the truth of the Gospel as mentioned in step number 1. Don’t forget, when I use the Qur’an, I emphasize to my Muslim friends that I do not believe in it.
There is no such thing as just one way to reach the Muslims with the gospel.  I am familiar somewhat with the Camel Method. It is like taking a story from the Qur’an and using it to teach the truth of the gospel. I personally can  use this method, but I don’t think Christian Americans are equipped to do so. There is so much to learn about Islam before you can reach out or evangelize the Muslims about Jesus.  What I am worried about is that an America Christian will read this book and then try to reach out to the Muslims.  When reaching out to a lost American, you can read a book or take a class on evangelism, but you can not do that with the Muslims for evangelizing them is far more complicated and difficult to do.
Q. I have witnessed to Muslims using (LOVE) as my theme and they QUICKLY depart. Does this Qur’an give us the answers we need?
A.  If you are talking about my English translation of the Qur’an, yes, it will help you to understand what Muslims really believe.  I believe my translation will help you to understand the truth about Islam.  Ministering to Muslims using the Gospel message is a waste of time because every truth we have in the Gospel is to the Muslim a falsehood; but if we start with the Qur’an, there is enough information there which proves to the Muslim.   (1) The Bible is true and has never been changed or corrupted.   (2) The Qur’an is a false counterfeit of the Bible and full of errors.    (3)  Islam is not a peaceful, loving religion as they claim .    (4) Mohammed was a sinful man, a child molester, a sex offender, a womanizer, a prophet pretender, a thief, a killer, an adulterer; therefore, he cannot be a prophet. Now we can go back to the Bible and share the truth of the love of Christ through the Gospel.  Muslims must be convinced that they are lost before they will have the need or desire to search for the Straight Way, who is our Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
